Prep Report: Rivera scores twice to lead Shelbyville soccer to HLC win over Triton Central

Shelbyville boys soccer allowed an early goal to Triton Central before taking control and securing a 4-2 Hoosier Legends Conference victory Tuesday at Shelbyville.

Midway through the first half and trailing 1-0, Keagan Pile beat the Triton Central defense and scored to tie the contest.

Joao Rivera scored the first of his two goals to get the Golden Bears (3-6, 2-2 HLC) a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Rivera’s goal in the second half made it 3-1 before Triton Central (2-6-1, 2-2 HLC) scored again.

Logan Addis added an insurance goal to set the final scoring.

Shelbyville won the junior varsity contest which was limited to one half on goals from Miguel Morales (2) and James Mendoza.

Girls golf

Shelbyville 191, Hauser 225

At Blue Bear Golf Club in Shelbyville, Hana Stenger was the medalist with the low round of 45 to lead the Golden Bears to the victory on their home course.

Julie Garrison followed with a 46. Sophia Bragg (48) and Bri Chavez (52) completed the Shelbyville scorecard.

Triton Central’s Charlee Baker also competed in the match. She posted a 49.

Boys soccer

Union County 3, Morristown 1

At Union County, Cody Hendrix scored a pair of goals and Charlie Payne scored to lead the Patriots (5-5) to the win.

Weston Cole scored the only goal for Morristown (2-5-1).

Southwestern 4, Trinity Lutheran 1

At Trinity Lutheran, four different Spartans scored to secure the road victory.

Ethan Sipes, Landon Drake and Jay Utley each had first-half goals to stake the Spartans (4-2-2) to a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Matthew Sipes extended the lead to 4-0 in the second half.

Bryson Baker scored the lone goal for the Cougars (3-3-1).

Boys tennis

Waldron 5, Hauser 0

At Waldron, the Mohawks swept all five Mid-Hoosier Conference matches in straight sets.

At No. 1 singles, Charlie Fischer defeated Jordan Nieberg, 6-1, 6-2. The win was Fischer’s 62^nd career win that tied him for third place all-time at Waldron.

Lincoln Fischer bested Joel Bechtel at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

Noah Leap secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Graydon Kilps.

At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer defeated Brady Miller and Ty Wadsworth, 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 10-1 this season.

Owen Hartman and Tad Crosby combined for a 6-1, 6-1 win over Curtis Kilps and Aiden Bense.

Volleyball

Shelbyville def. Speedway, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16

At Speedway, Jordyn Noe had 14 kills and Annabelle Bringle followed with 11 kills to improve Shelbyville to 6-5 overall and 3-2 against HLC opponents.

Taylor Abell had five service aces. Hayden Ricketts finished with a team-high 10 digs. Addy Marshall collected 41 assists.

Speedway dropped to 2-11 (0-5 HLC).

Waldron def. Southwestern, 25-11, 25-12, 25-15

At Waldron, Maleah Williams collected 22 kills, three service aces and nine digs to lead the Mohawks to the conference win over the Spartans (4-8, 0-3 MHC).

Ashlyn Ramsey finished with 12 kills and 24 digs to improve Waldron to 6-5 (2-0 MHC).

Tri-West def. Triton Central, 25-11, 25-22, 25-16

At Tri-West, Kate Collier led the visiting Tigers with eight kills in a battle of two programs without a HLC loss.

Alaina Darlage finished with 25 digs and Anna Kemper had 19 assists for Triton Central (8-4, 4-1 HLC).

Tri-West improved to 11-2 (5-0 HLC).

Hauser def. Morristown, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21

At Hauser, freshmen Willow Hartwell and Sophia Baker combined for 26 kills to get Hauser (11-5, 1-0 MHC) its first conference victory of the season.

Senior setter Leah Manley finished with 40 assists.

Morristown dropped to 10-3 (3-2 MHC).
