Morristown’s Colston Allford punched his ticket to the IHSAA Track and Field State Championships Thursday at the Greenfield-Central Regional.
The sophomore (photo) cleared six feet, three inches in the high jump to earn an automatic qualifying spot at the June 6 event held at Indianapolis North Central High School.
New Castle’s Lucas Eaton won the regional championship with a clearance of 6-8. Lawrence North’s Blake Smith was the runner-up at 6-4.
Also competing at the Greenfield-Central Regional, Morristown’s Lexi Singh finished 14th in the 800 in 2:06.98.
Singh ran with Ryan Crisman, Thane Cole and Brayden Anderson to finish 11th in the 3,200 relay (8:42.3).
Four more Shelby County athletes competed at the Plainfield Regional.
Triton Central’s Braden Brown finished 12th in the 100 (11.23).
Fellow Tiger Tevian Faulkner placed 11th in the 110 hurdles (15.82).
Waldron freshman Caige Sheaffer finished 15th in the high jump (5-10).
Waldron’s Ethan Moody placed 13th in the long jump (19-10.5).

Tri Sectional
North Decatur 18, Waldron 0
North Decatur built a 9-0 lead after two innings then scored nine runs in the third to run away from Waldron at the Tri Sectional.
Kendall Hostkoetter had a double and a home run and finished with five RBIs. Macie Leake had three hits and four RBIs. Brooklyn White had two hits, scored three runs and drove in three to improve North Decatur to 18-10.
White pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out seven in the win.
Shelby Zapfe and Izzy Blanchard each pitched two innings for Waldron (5-15).
Eastern Hancock Sectional
Indianapolis Scecina forfeited its semifinal contest with Triton Central which moves the Tigers (15-7) into the sectional championship game today against the host Royals.
Eastern Hancock improved to 17-6 this season with an 11-0 semifinal round win over Christel House.
The championship game is a rematch from an April 7 contest won by Eastern Hancock, 14-11.
