Prep Report: Golden Bears' bats catch fire in Fairland

Shelbyville scored seven runs in back-to-back innings to overwhelm Triton Central, 19-7, Friday night in Fairland.

Dalton Jones had two hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in five Golden Bears.

Gavin Reed had three hits and two RBI. Reece Prickett, Donovan Martin and Gavyn Fisher also had two hits apiece.

Both teams have pitching aces but none took the mound Friday.

Shelbyville used five pitchers with Austin Martzall getting credit for the win. The freshman worked a scoreless inning. Prickett pitched two innings while Cooper Thoman, Jackson Myers and Adair Zermeno also saw mound time.

Triton Central also used five pitchers with Hayden Beaver taking the loss. He pitched three innings and allowed five hits and two walks. Also pitching against Shelbyville were Janssen Capps, Brody Hartman, Blaine Raider and Ty Bergman.

No Tiger had more than one hit in the loss. Weston Smith and Bergman each had two RBI.

Triton Central dropped to 2-1. Shelbyville improved to 2-1.

Baseball

Southwestern 11, South Decatur 2

At South Decatur, a 6-run fifth inning helped the visiting Spartans sweep the Mid-Hoosier Conference series.

James Oliver had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three to improve Southwestern to 2-1. Oliver also went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits and two unearned runs while striking out nine.

Landon Drake, Kaden Barlow and Chris Cecil each had two hits. Clayton Randolph had a double and three RBI.

Southwestern travels to Indiana Deaf Tuesday.

South Ripley 11, Waldron 5

At South Ripley, Braxton Wilson and Mason McNew combined to limit the Mohawks to nine hits (six singles, three doubles) and struck out seven to improve the Raiders to 2-0.

Brady Ruble, McNew and Trevor Castner each drove in two runs.

Jordan Bennett took the loss for Waldron (0-2), allowing six hits and four walks while striking out three in 4.2 innings pitched. Keagen Schneider got the final four outs in the loss.

North Decatur 9, Morristown 6

At North Decatur, the visiting Yellow Jackets scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead but the Chargers answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to sweep the MHC twinbill.

Eli Trenkmap pitched the final two innings and earned the win. He allowed three hits and two runs while striking out three in relief of starting pitcher Kamdenn McKinney, who had six strikeouts in five innings.

Henry Kinker had two hits and drove in three runs.

Morristown (0-3) hosts Providence Cristo Rey (0-2) Tuesday.

Softball

North Decatur 17, Morristown 2

At North Decatur, a 9-run second inning put the Chargers in control on the way to a MHC sweep of the Yellow Jackets.

Brooklyn White had three hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Madison Rohls drove in three runs with two hits.

White earned the win in the circle, allowing two hits while striking out seven in the five-inning win.

Nevaeh Cox had a double and drove in a run for Morristown (1-2).

Girls tennis

Waldron 5, Morristown 0

At Morristown, the No. 2 doubles match went three sets before Waldron's Malia Murphy and Madeline Walker bested Zoey Coons and Emmy Boyner, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 to complete the sweep.

At No. 1 doubles, Riley Price and Jackie Corlett defeated Addie Osborne and Bri Flores, 6-2, 6-1.

Riley Thurston and Lilly Mann each won singles matches, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles, respectively, over Maile Vitz and Amerie Helton.

At No. 1 singles, Emerson Lindsey topped Katie Theobald, 6-3, 6-1.
