Prep Report: Fast start nets Delta HHC win over Shelbyville

Delta used a seven-run first inning to split a Hoosier Heritage Conference baseball series with Class 3A, No. 11 Shelbyville.

At Delta Wednesday, the Eagles defeated the Golden Bears, 10-5. Only three Delta runs were earned. 

Shelbyville held the Eagles scoreless Tuesday in a 2-0 victory at Barnett Field.

Cale Taylor had two doubles and four runs batted in to improve Delta to 8-6 (5-5 HHC).

Three different pitchers held off any comeback attempt by the Golden Bears. Sebastian Gillum earned the win, pitching three innings, allowing seven hits and three runs. Evan Conner and Maddux Huffman each pitched two innings to seal the win.

Gavin Reed took the loss for Shelbyville (8-3, 5-2 HHC). The senior pitched three innings, allowed six hits and eight runs — only one was earned.

Reece Prickett had three hits, including a double. Reed had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Kellen Linville also had two hits.

Shelbyville has a third conference game this week on Friday. The Golden Bears face New Palestine (9-5, 4-3 HHC) at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

At Brickyard Crossing, Max Crouse led Triton Central was a 44 — tied for fourth overall.

Hayden Beaver, Colton Ayres and Ryder Trimble each shot 49. Devon Gurganus completed the Tigers’ scorecard with a 62.

Girls tennis

Triton Central 5, Speedway 0

At Speedway, Triton Central (10-0) won all five matches in straight sets and lost just eight games total against the Sparkplugs.

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling defeated Antonella Rosa, 6-0, 6-3.

Anniston Evans cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Frankie Meloni at No. 2 singles.

Zhibek Zhumaly bested Delilah Collins at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Kate Collier and Estelle Gearlds defeated Kamryn Lowe and Briana Parra-Pino, 6-0, 6-1.

And Ellie Gast and Cadence Roberts blanked Diane Morrow and Angie Jaurequi, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
