Prep Report: Bunch leads Southwestern to MHC win over Morristown

Southwestern scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed the Yellow Jackets thanks to the hitting and pitching of Isaac Bunch.

Bunch pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out 11.

Micah Schoolcraft had three hits while Bunch had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Spartans (4-2, 4-1 Mid-Hoosier Conference).

Morristown dropped to 1-6 (0-3 MHC).

Game two of the MHC series is tonight.

Indian Creek 10, Triton Central 2

At Indian Creek, the Braves scored eight runs in the first two innings and Nick Winters racked up 10 strikeouts to improve his team to 7-3.

Hayden Beaver took the loss for Triton Central (7-3). He allowed eight hits and eight runs before turning over the pitching duties to Blaine Raider and Kellan Dishman.

Triton Central hosts Covenant Christian (7-2) Tuesday.

Boys golf

Pike 171, Triton Central Green 173, Triton Central Black 191

At The Links, Chase Chandler posted the low score (40) for Triton Central Green. Derreck Uhls shot 42.

Taggy Goul led Triton Central Black with a 42.

Softball

Triton Central 18, Irvington Prep

Triton Central scored 13 runs in the first inning and June Murdick allowed just one hit over four innings to lead the Tigers to their sixth-straight win.

Murdick collected eight strikeouts over her four innings in the circle and Madi Peterson pitched a scoreless fifth inning to close out the win.

Jayda McKee drove in three runs for Triton Central while Lillian Fillippinie, Makinah Noel, Peyton Fillippinie and Peterson each had two hits.

The Tigers (6-1) host Beech Grove (5-8-1) today.

Track

Morristown earned team wins in both meets against Trinity Lutheran and Jac-Cen-Del.

The Yellow Jackets won the girls meet with 69 points. Trinity Lutheran (53) was runner-up ahead of Jac-Cen-Del (12).

Event winners for Morristown were Brooklyn Carlton (4-6 in high jump, 25.18 in 100 hurdles), Sawyer Rogers (14.57 in 100), Grace McLaughlin (6:26 in 1,600, 2:57.21 in 800), Nevaeh Cox (1:06.59 in 400, 29.43 in 200), and Audrey VanDyke (14:18.76 in 3,200).

McLaughlin, VanDyke, Cox and Brooke Kuhn won the 3,200 relay in 12:24.

In the boys meet, Morristown collected 62.5 points to defeat Trinity Lutheran (40) and Jac-Cen-Del (32.5).

Event winners for Morristown were Colston Allford (5-8 in high jump) and Arik Trattner (11.81 in 100, 24.43 in 200).

The Yellow Jackets also won two relay races.

Gavin Wilson, Brayden Keithley, Weston Cole and Trattner won the 400 relay in 46.9.

In the 1,600 relay, Keithley, Cole, Wilson and Levi Stoddard crossed the finish line first in 3:58.88.
