
Shelbyville baseball needed an extra inning to end its three-game losing streak Saturday at Lawrence Central.
The Golden Bears scored four times in the top of the eighth and Austin Martzall pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning to get the Golden Bears a 7-3 victory.
Grantland Fitzgerald started on the mound for Shelbyville (5-6) and pitched four innings, allowing four hits and one run before Martzall took over in the fifth. The freshman allowed five hits and struck out two to earn the win.
Fitzgerald was the only Golden Bear with more than one hit. The sophomore had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run.
Lawrence Central dropped to 3-8.
Shelbyville had lost three straight and five of its last six before Saturday.
The Golden Bears are at Franklin Central (2-9) Monday.

Baseball
Herron 10, Morristown 9
At Morristown, the visiting Achaeans scored four runs in the top of the seventh to steal the victory from the Yellow Jackets (1-7).
Colvin Meek had two doubles and three RBI to lead Herron (4-3).
Abraham Cherry and Luke Cherry combined to strike out nine Yellow Jackets and allowed nine runs, but only four were earned.
Morristown hosts Irvington Prep (8-2) Tuesday.
Softball
Shelbyville 20, Speedway 1
At Speedway, the visiting Golden Bears racked up 16 hits while pitchers Gracie Crafton and Sydney Brown combined to limit the Sparkplugs to just one.
Addie Stieneker had three hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in five to get Shelbyville (10-6) into double-digit wins.
Kali Laycock and Crafton each had three hits.
Speedway’s lone hit was a leadoff triple in the final inning by Hayli Clampitt. She would score on a ground ball out.
The Sparkplugs are 2-4 this season.
On Monday, Shelbyville hosts Greensburg (7-1), who features one of the state’s strikeout leaders. Sophomore pitcher Harper Adams has 103 strikeouts in just 47 innings this season.
