
Shelbyville girls soccer improved to 4-1 Saturday with a convincing 10-2 victory over Speedway.
The Golden Bears scored six times in the first half against a future Hoosier Legends Conference opponent. Hannah Baker finished with three goals and an assist. Bethany Conners also had two goals.
Also scoring goals for Shelbyville were Ava Van Wye, Amara Lewis, Chloe Higdon, Hali Chaney and Alyna Castanon. Credited with assists were Van Wye, Lewis, Brigid McKenney, Chaney, Nevaeh Cole and Cassie Pike.
Lucille Haacker had four saves in goal against the Sparkplugs (0-4-1).
On Thursday, Shelbyville defeated Lawrence Central, 4-1.
Baker had two goals while Van Wye and McKenney also found the back of the net.
The Golden Bears host Class 3A, No. 20 Mt. Vernon (3-1-1) tonight in a Hoosier Heritage Conference contest. Both teams are 1-0 in HHC contests this season.

Shelbyville Invitational
After a scoreless second half, Mooresville defeated Shelbyville 4-3 in penalty kicks to advance to the invitational championship match.
Mooresville’s Jagger Pruett and Shelbyville’s Joao Rivera each scored in the first half before each team’s defense pitched a second-half shutout with Nolan Speaks making 14 saves for the Pioneers and Corbin Martin credited with six saves for the Golden Bears.
In the other semifinal, Bloomington North defeated Batesville, 4-0.
Shelbyville bounced back in the consolation match to defeat Batesville, 3-1. Rivera scored two goals and had an assist on Hudson Rice’s goal. Logan Addis has an assist on one of Rivera’s goals.
Martin finished with three saves.
The Golden Bears improved to 2-3 while Batesville dropped to 2-3-1.
Bloomington North captured the invitational title with a 6-0 win over Mooresville (2-2-1). Bloomington North is 5-1-1 this season.
The entire invitational was played at McKeand Stadium at Shelbyville High School.
The Golden Bears return to action Thursday at Franklin Central (1-5-1).
Volleyball
Hagerstown Invitational
Triton Central improved to 6-3 this season with wins over Richmond and Hagerstown.
The Tigers defeated Richmond, 25-17, 27-25. They followed that with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-23 win over Hagerstown.
Raleigh Doerstler led Hagerstown with 11 kills, two service aces and seven digs.
