
Sophia Asher carded her best round of the season to earn the medalist honor Monday for Shelbyville all while celebrating her 18th birthday.
The senior (photo) shot 45 at Blue Bear Golf Club in Shelbyville to help Shelbyville (201) defeat Connersville (231) and Rushville (248).
The Golden Bears left the competition behind with Riley Everette posting 49, Hana Stenger finishing at 53 and Julie Garrison carding a 54.

At Southwestern, the Grizzly Cubs’ first goal late in the first half proved to be enough to defeat the Class A, No. 8 ranked Spartans (2-1).
Ripken Dillon scored with 4:08 remaining in the opening half and Aybram Moore and Gavin Fugate added second-half goals to improve Franklin to 2-1 this season.
For Southwestern, Chandler Holt and Jay Utley combined to make eight saves in goal.
The Spartans host Triton Central Wednesday.
Oldenburg Academy 4, Triton Central 0
At Triton Central, the host Tigers dropped to 0-2-1 this season and have yet to score a goal.
The Twisters improved to 3-2 with their second shutout in five matches.
Triton Central is at Southwestern Wednesday.
Girls soccer
Triton Central 8, Beech Grove 0
At Beech Grove, the Tigers got two goals apiece from Ariel Walker and Rylee Pruitt to secure the program’s first Hoosier Legends Conference victory.
Also scoring goals for Triton Central were Sydney Reardon, Ahna Ashman, Brynne Aukerman and Madelyn Burnett.
Walker also had two assists. Ava Bedwell, Farah Coen, Bella Ball and Aukerman also were credited with assists.
Cheyenne Allen secured the shutout in goal.
Beech Grove suffered its first loss of the season to fall to 3-1.
Triton Central (2-1-1) is off until Sept. 3 when it travels to Rushville (0-3).
Boys tennis
Shelbyville 4, Waldron 1
At Shelbyville, the Golden Bears won a pair of three-set matches to defeat a potential sectional opponent.
At No. 3 singles, Shelbyville freshman Bram Kolkmeier defeated Jackson Kuhn, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3). Shelbyville’s No. 2 doubles pairing of Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye also won in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Noah Mitchell and Connor Ping.
At No. 1 singles, Reece Prickett defeated Waldron’s Cash Young, 6-1, 6-0. And at No. 2 doubles, Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong bested Owen Hartman and Caige Sheaffer, 6-1, 6-2.
Waldron’s only win came at No. 2 singles where Lincoln Fischer topped Kashton Laycock, 6-4, 6-1.
Waldron (1-2) is at Morristown Thursday. The Yellow Jackets defeated Edinburgh Monday, 3-2.
Shelbyville (3-1) is at Seymour today.
Triton Central 5, Speedway 0
At Speedway, the visiting Tigers lost just three games over four matches to secure the conference victory.
At No. 1 singles, Janssen Capps defeated Ethan Lowe, 6-0, 6-0. Brayden Hoover won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. And Bradyn Robinson cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire blanked Paul Tice and Matthew West at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.
Drayton Kermode and Graham Gast received a forfeit at No. 2 doubles.
Triton Central (4-2) hosts Southwestern Thursday.
Volleyball
Yorktown def. Shelbyville, 25-7, 25-12, 25-10
At Yorktown, Mya Trammell and Kendall Rowray combined for 17 kills to lead the Tigers to the Hoosier Heritage Conference victory over the Golden Bears (1-3, 0-1 HHC).
Landree Johnson led Yorktown (4-1, 1-0 HHC) with seven service aces and 30 assists.
Shelbyville is at Connersville (0-2) Wednesday.
Greenfield-Central def. Waldron, 25-13, 25-17, 25-16
At Waldron, the visiting Cougars (3-3) pinned a third-straight loss on the Mohawks.
Olivia Reeves led Greenfield-Central with 15 kills.
Waldron (1-3) is at Jac-Cen-Del (6-2) Thursday.

At Southwestern, the visiting Eagles swept the Spartans for their fourth-straight win.
The Spartans dropped to 0-7 and are at Indian Creek (3-1) today.
