Prep Report: Anderson leads Yellow Jackets to road win at Knightstown

Knightstown held an early lead on Morristown Thursday but the Yellow Jackets used the final three quarters to pull away from the Panthers.

Brayden Anderson hit four three-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points to lead Morristown to a 64-56 win.

Jake Miesse finished with 13 points and Brody Smith had 10 to improve the Yellow Jackets to 8-4.

Billy Stein hit a trio of 3s in the first quarter to help the Panthers (4-6) hold a 17-16 lead at the first break.

Morristown outscored Knightstown, 28-22, in the middle two quarters then posted 20 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Stein finished with 23 points. Brantt Ellis had 15 and Brody Adams finished with 11.

Morristown returns to the hardwood Saturday at noon at Hoosier Gym in Knightstown to face Oldenburg Academy (5-5) in a varsity-only contest (GIANT fm will broadcast the game live).

Girls basketball

Triton Central 59, Northwest Homeschool 36

At Triton Central, senior Maryrose Felling pushed her career scoring total above 1,600 points with a 30-point performance.

Felling scored 12 points in the opening quarter and made five 3s in the win. She now has 1,629 points – 73 away from tying the TC career scoring record of Samantha Dewey (1,702).

Kate Collier scored seven points while Quinn King and Layla Compton each had six.

Triton Central won the junior varsity game, 51-6. Maddie Burnett led the Tigers with 13 points. Ryn West finished with 12.

North Decatur 51, Southwestern 18

At North Decatur, three Chargers scored in double digits to help North Decatur clinch a share of the Mid-Hoosier Conference title.

Jo Whitaker led the Chargers (8-11, 5-0 MHC) with 15 points. Jewel Verseman had 13 and Brynlee Green added 10.

Bri Stevens topped the Spartans (2-16) with six points.

Southwestern travels to Milan (3-14) on Jan. 22.

South Decatur 39, Waldron 29

At Waldron, the visiting Cougars scored 17 points in the second quarter to take control of the MHC contest.

Riley Benge scored seven of her game-high 13 points in the second quarter when South Decatur (8-11, 4-1 MHC) extended an 8-7 lead to 25-13 by halftime.

Dalilah Martin had eight points and Raegan Benge finished with seven. The Cougars made just 12 of 29 free throw attempts.

For Waldron (6-9, 1-4 MHC), Abby Crouch, Brooklyn Milbourn and Jackie Corlett each scored seven. Grace Fischer returned to the lineup following an injury and hit a pair of 3s for six points.

Waldron hosts Knightstown (10-5) Saturday afternoon.

Morristown 52, Indianapolis Lutheran 48

At Morristown, the host Yellow Jackets used a 19-point third quarter to help secure a Senior Night victory.

The Saints (6-11) led 23-18 at the half but were outscored 19-10 in the third quarter and never recovered.

Morristown improved to 9-9 and have two games remaining on its regular-season schedule. The Yellow Jackets are at Hauser (11-7) on Jan. 22 and at Knightstown (10-5) on Jan. 26.
