Wrestlers from Shelbyville and Triton Central travel to Southport Saturday morning to begin the postseason journey to the state finals in Indianapolis.
Competitors at the Southport Sectional, hosted by Purdue Polytechnic, need a top four finish in a weight class to advance to the Perry Meridian Regional on Feb. 7.
Shelbyville’s two Hoosier Heritage Conference champions are in good position to advance.
Tripp Garner is one of three state-ranked wrestlers at 126 pounds at the Southport Sectional. Garner (32-2), ranked No. 16, will open against Triton Central’s Jaye Blazier (9-9). A win could set up a semifinal showdown with Warren Central’s Jett McGuire (21-5), ranked No. 12.
Roncalli’s Blake Getz (29-1) is ranked No. 2 in the state and in the top half of the bracket at 126.

Brady Bryant (29-4), HHC champion at 157 pounds for Shelbyville (photo), is the No. 2 seed at Southport. The senior will open against Roncalli’s Daniel Kappes (13-13) in a quarterfinal round match.
Bryant could face Triton Central’s Landon Ball (20-9) in the semifinal round. Ball opens against Beech Grove’s James Gann (14-10).
The only ranked wrestler in the field is No. 16 Tyler Sandusky (30-4) of Franklin Central.
Triton Central sophomore Braxton Nufio is ranked No. 29 at 106 pounds but he will compete at 113 in the sectional. Nufio’s first match is against Purdue Polytechnic’s Ethan Morgan (20-8). A win would likely set up a semifinal match against No. 12 Caleb Morrow (25-6) of Roncalli.
Triton Central’s Chance Uhls (13-12) will face Perry Meridian’s Covyn Shelton (13-8) in a quarterfinal round match at 132. The winner would probably face No. 11 Richard Rogers (26-3) of Franklin Central in the semifinals.
At 138, Shelbyville’s Carson Nance (13-13) drew No. 8 Donald Bowie (22-2) of Warren Central. Triton Central’s Conner Phipps, a Hoosier Legends Conference champion this season, opens against No. 22 Sean Murphy (20-8) of Perry Meridian.
No. 11 Gavyn Kemp (23-8) and No. 15 Colt Goodman (31-4) of Franklin Central are in the bottom half of a tough weight class bracket.

Triton Central’s Anthony Toon enters the sectional at 144 pounds with a 17-8 record. He faces Perry Meridian’s Siang Mawi (10-13) in a quarterfinal round match.
Triton Central’s other HLC champion, Braxton Zimmerman (17-6) drew a bye at 150 and will face the winner of Shelbyville’s Gian Diaz (3-9) and Franklin Central’s Landon Rodman (13-8).
Shelbyville’s Cameron Miller (24-8) is the No. 2 seed at 165 pounds and will open against Franklin Central’s Jason Rogers (7-9) in the quarterfinal round. Roncalli’s Jackson McCurdy (25-8), ranked No. 27 in the state, is the top seed.
Triton Central’s Bane Metcalfe (16-11) will square off with Franklin Central’s Amonte Jordan (30-8) at 175 pounds.
Triton Central’s Jacob Herman (15-10) drew a bye at 190 and will face the winner of Perry Meridian’s Jalen Hamilton-Brown (5-4) and Indianapolis Lutheran’s Ryder Vleck (13-9).
At 215, Shelbyville’s Hayden Dwyer (11-13) will see Franklin Central’s Andrew Harmon (30-8), ranked No. 16, in the quarterfinal round.
There are three state-ranked wrestlers at 285 and Shelbyville’s Clayton Watson (5-18) will open against No. 19 Logan Kennerk (16-0) of Lutheran in the quarterfinal round.
