The Plymouth girls soccer team may only have three wins this season. But it's big when one of those comes in the postseason to dramatically keep your season alive.
That's what happened Tuesday when Plymouth and Elkhart ended regulation in a 1-1 tie with both teams failing to score in the second half and in two seven minute overtime sessions. A PK shootout to decide who would advance to play Concord in the semifinals ended with Plymouth goals from Alivia Kizer, Maddy Thangam, Sophie Cantero, Ella Young and Mo Hundt was enough to advance the Rockies out of the first round with a shootout win, 5-4.
Young had the goal in the first half for Plymouth (3-13-1)
Plymouth goalie Lauren Kopetski had nine saves in goal.
Elkhart's season ends with a record of 5-9-3.
On Thursday, Plymouth will host the 3A Sectional 4 semifinals. At 5 p.m., #15 (3A) Goshen (11-2-3) will play NLC-rival #7 (3A) Northridge (12-1-3). The conference foes played to a 1-1 tie when they met on August 26.
In the following semifinal, Plymouth will look to avenge a September loss at Concord (5-10-1). Concord led 1-0 at halftime and held on late for a 2-1 NLC victory.
