Morristown Youth Football, Inc. is elevating its commitment to player safety in a big way for the 2026 season.

Thanks to a generous Operation RoundUp grant from RushShelby Energy, the organization will outfit its entire K–12 football program with Guardian Caps 2.0 — impact-reducing, soft-shell helmet add-ons designed to lessen the force of on-field collisions.

“Player safety has always been a top priority for Morristown Youth Football, and this investment allows us to take that commitment to the next level,” said Greg Worton, President of Morristown Youth Football, Inc. "This is a comprehensive approach -- not just new equipment, but a true safety-first culture."

Guardian Caps have been widely adopted at higher levels of play, including the NFL, where league data has shown a reduction of more than 50% in concussions for mandated positions during practices.

By reducing the severity of impacts, the caps add an extra layer of protection while preserving the integrity of the game.

In addition to equipping all players with Guardian Caps, Morristown Youth Football will require all coaches to complete updated concussion protocol training for the 2026 season. The organization’s board of directors has also received additional education on concussion safety guidelines to ensure informed oversight and decision-making.

“This is about being proactive and intentional when it comes to youth sports safety,” said Courtney Chapella, Vice President of Morristown Youth Football, Inc. "Our families trust us with their kids, and we take that responsibility seriously. From equipment upgrades to education and training, we are committed to creating the safest environment possible while still building a strong, competitive program."

Morristown Youth Football will also upgrade its entire helmet inventory to high-performing helmets from Riddell Sports, ensuring compatibility and maximizing protection for athletes across all age levels.

Morristown Youth Football remains dedicated to developing not only skilled athletes and a winning culture, but also responsible, empathetic young leaders who positively impact their community. The organization relies on community grants and equipment sponsorships to provide the safest possible experience for its players.

“We are deeply thankful to RushShelby Energy and all of our supporters,” Worton added. “Their commitment to our nonprofit mission directly impacts the well-being of our players and the future of our program.”
