
Morristown’s girls won six events while Waldron boys took first place in five events to spearhead their respective teams’ paths to Mid-Hoosier Conference championships Thursday at Waldron High School.
Morristown earned first-place points in two of the three relay races and won four individual event titles.
Sawyer Rogers won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.77 seconds. Nevaeh Cox crossed the finish line first in the 400 (1:04.01).
Grace McLaughlin held off teammate Audrey Van Dyke to win the 1,600 in 6:30.72. Van Dyke won the 3,200 in 14:09 with teammate Brooke Kuhn finishing runner-up (15:05).
McLaughlin, Van Dyke, Kuhn and Cox won the 3,200 relay in 11:13.77. McLaughlin, Rogers, Cox and Brooklyn Carlton scored first-place points in the 1,600 relay (4:40.95).
Carlton also finished second in the 300 hurdles (49.69).
Waldron had a trio of event winners: Riley Price in the 800 (2:40.43), Brooklyn Milbourn in the shot put (29 feet, 9.5 inches), and Ashlyn Ramsey in the discus (96-9). Milbourn was runner-up in the discus (94-3).
Morristown amassed 152.33 points to capture the girls title. North Decatur (136.33) was second ahead of South Decatur (105.33), Hauser (71), Waldron (57), Edinburgh (13) and Southwestern (13).
Waldron did not need to win the final relay race of the event to win the MHC title, but it put a strong emphasis on who was the best team Thursday.
Jared Crosby, Lucas Shaw, Tad Crosby and Will Larrison won the 1,600 relay in 3:40.74 to give the Mohawks 146 points.
Hauser was runner-up at 126.5, well ahead of South Decatur (94), Morristown (94), North Decatur (76), Southwestern (29.5) and Edinburgh (3).
Larrison won the 800 in 2:04.99 and the 1,600 in 4:35.5.
Shaw took first in the 300 hurdles (44.86). His teammate Ethan Moody was third (46.99).
Jared Crosby won the 400 in 52.95 with Tad Crosby a close second in 53.13. The same duo tied for second in the 100 in 11.87.
Morristown had two event winners and two runner-up finishes in relay races.
Arik Trattner won the long jump with a best distance of 20-0.25. Colston Alford cleared 6-0 to win the high jump.
Lakshdeep Singh, Matthew Morrison, Levi Stoddard and Ryan Crisman placed second in the 3,200 relay (9:21.81).
Gavin Wilson, Brayden Keithley, Weston Cole and Trattner finished second in the 400 relay (46.55).
