Shelbyville volleyball has not won a sectional championship since 2014. The Golden Bears currently have the most wins in this year’s Class 3A, Sectional 27 field.
The Indiana High School Athletic Association set the field Sunday night for 399 teams in the 55th Annual Girls Volleyball State Tournament.
Sectional play begins Oct. 13 and continues through sectional championship games on Oct. 17.
Regional championship matches are on Oct. 24. Semistate champions are crowned on Oct. 31.
The four state championship matches will be played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Nov. 7.
Beech Grove is the host site for the Sectional 27 field.
The Hornets (7-13) open the tournament against Rushville (2-20). The winner advances to the semifinals to face Connersville (13-12).
Shelbyville (15-8) received a bye into the semifinals where it will battle Purdue Polytechnic Downtown (11-7) for a berth in the sectional championship match.
The Golden Bears already have 3-0 wins this season over Beech Grove and Connersville.
The Beech Grove Sectional champion will face the Crawfordsville Sectional champion in a Class 3A regional championship match at an as yet to be determined site.
The Crawfordsville Sectional features Tri-West (23-6), Lebanon (18-7), Frankfort (17-7) and Crawfordsville (16-10).
Triton Central finished one win away from a State Finals appearance in 2025 – losing to Barr-Reeve in the Bedford Semistate championship match.
The Tigers open the 2026 postseason at the Indianapolis Scecina Sectional.
The five-team bracket begins with Knightstown (16-13) taking on the host Crusaders (11-13). The winner advances to face Eastern Hancock (19-9) in the semifinals.
Triton Central (13-9) drew the bye and takes on Christel House (7-12) in the other semifinal match.
The Scecina Sectional champion meets the Hagerstown Sectional champion in the regional round.
The favorites to win the Hagerstown Sectional are Winchester (24-3) and Hagerstown (22-6). Winchester defeated Hagerstown, 3-1, on Sept. 10.
North Decatur will host the Class A, Sectional 59 tournament that features seven Mid-Hoosier Conference programs and Greenwood Christian.
Morristown (18-8) opens the tournament against Southwestern (11-17). The Yellow Jackets already have a pair of wins this season over the Spartans.
Hauser (17-10) follows with a match against Waldron (13-15). The Mohawks lost to Hauser, 3-2, on Sept. 21.
Greenwood Christian (19-7) opens the bottom half of the bracket with a quarterfinal match against South Decatur (18-8).
The host Chargers (16-8) close out the quarterfinals against Edinburgh (7-17).
The North Decatur Sectional champion faces the Oldenburg Academy Sectional champion in the regional.
Milan (19-11) is the favorite. Oldenburg Academy (14-10) also will be a contender but was defeated by the Indians, 3-1, on Sept. 24.
The Southern Indiana regional host sites are Greenfield-Central, Cascade, Monrovia, Bloomington North, Loogootee, Mitchell, Morristown and Charlestown.
Southern Indiana semistate hosts are Martinsville, Bedford North Lawrence, Jasper and Jennings County.
