Franklin volleyball official Dan Morgan to be honored

Dan Morgan is the recipient of the 2025-26 IHSAA Outstanding Official Award for the sport of Boy’s Volleyball.

Each year, the IHSAA recognizes an outstanding official in each sport. Officials selected for this distinction have gone above and beyond to serve their association, community, and the IHSAA. Each has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and loyalty to their sport, student-athletes, and fellow officials.

Morgan has been a licensed IHSAA Volleyball official for 38 years. He is also licensed in football and basketball. Throughout his career, he has worked numerous high-level contests, including multiple IHSAA State Finals across several sport; most recently in football (2025, 2021, 2009) and boys basketball (2025, 2014, 2008).

In addition to his on-field contributions, Morgan has served the officiating community in a variety of leadership roles. He has served as an IHSAA clinician for over 20 years and previously served as chairman for the Indiana Officials Association for over 15 years. He has also worked as an approved assigner, coordinating officials for numerous schools, and has mentored younger officials for more than 25 years.

Beyond officiating, Morgan has made a significant impact through community service. He has volunteered with organizations such as Indiana Special Olympics, the Franklin Boys Club, and the Shelbyville Boys Club. He has also contributed his time as a board member for local youth sports programs and founded the Basketball Officials Development Camp, helping train and develop future officials.

For Morgan, officiating has always been about relationships. Whether connecting with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, or fellow officials, he values the lifelong friendships and meaningful interactions that extend far beyond the game.

Morgan is an insurance agent with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance and resides in Franklin, Indiana. He was selected for this honor by a committee representing officials’ associations from across the state.
