
Karissa Hamilton and Kylee Edwards combined to hit 65 home runs for Shelbyville softball during their storied high school careers.
On Saturday during their first meeting as college foes, the duo combined to hit three home runs as Kentucky and Mississippi State split a doubleheader.
Mississippi State won game one in Lexington, Kentucky, 12-2. Edwards had a single, walked twice and scored two runs for the victorious Bulldogs.
Kentucky exploded for 14 runs in game two Saturday with Hamilton driving in six in the 14-8 victory. Hamilton had a double and two home runs and scored three times for the Wildcats.
Edwards had a solo home, her ninth of the season, in the loss.
Mississippi State won the series Sunday with a 5-0 victory to improve to 35-15 (11-10 SEC). Edwards had a walk, stole two bases, and scored a run.
Kentucky dropped to 29-22 (7-14 SEC).
Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Five Shelby County graduates competed Friday and Saturday at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Berea, Kentucky.
Waldron graduate Madalyn Hudnall won the javelin event with a best throw of 135 feet, five inches.
Competing for Mount St. Joseph, Hudnall also placed fourth in the hammer throw (142 feet).
Triton Central graduate Brayden Wilkins finished fourth in the 100 meters (11.02 seconds) and fifth in the 200 (22.10). He also was part of Franklin College’s 400 relay team that placed eighth.
Triton Central graduate Bailey Stamper represented Franklin in three events. She placed 14th in the shot put (27-10.75), 17th in the discus (78-4) and 12th in the hammer throw (109-10).
Shelbyville graduate Elijah von Werder finished 15th in the 800 (2:08.54) for Franklin.
Franklin freshman Connor Duncan placed 21st in the discus (87-11) and 18th in the hammer throw (99-6). Duncan is a Shelbyville graduate.
Ethan Lambert
The Shelbyville graduate placed 13th in the shot put (37-8.5) and 10th in the discus (126-1) Saturday for the University of Indianapolis at the Wilmington College Invitational.
Kilikina Schultz
The Shelbyville graduate also competed at the Wilmington College Invitational. Running for Muskingum, she finished 18th in the 200 (28.36) and sixth in the 100 hurdles (19.05).
Oliver Gearlds
The Triton Central graduate and IU Kokomo golfer shot rounds of 85 and 80 for a two-round score of 165 (+21) to finish tied for 43rd overall on April 21 in the Sagamore Shootout hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
Asher Caldwell
The Morristown graduate shot 76 (+4) Monday at Sand Ridge Golf Club to post a two-day score of 156 that left him tied for 33rd overall at the John Carroll University Cashera-Dicillo Classic.
Caldwell also represented Trine golf on April 21 at the Knight Invitational at Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He shot 85 (+14) to finish tied for 31st.
Charlie Rife
The Shelbyville graduate did not have a hit but walked twice for Bellarmine Wednesday in a 10-9 loss at the University of Southern Indiana.
On Friday, he had two hits and drove in a run in Bellarmine’s 11-4 loss at the University of Central Arkansas.
Abby Eberhardt
The Triton Central graduate had a pinch-hit sacrifice fly that drove in a run Wednesday in Manchester softball’s 5-0 win over Earlham College.
On Thursday, Eberhardt had singles in both games of a doubleheader against Heidelberg. She also had a walk and drove in two runs in a 9-6 loss in game one.
Manchester lost game two, 2-1.
Katie Mathies
The Shelbyville graduate had a double, a home run, scored two runs and drove in two in DePauw’s 9-1 win Sunday over Hiram that clinched the softball program’s fifth-straight North Coast Athletic Conference title.
In game one of Sunday’s doubleheader, Mathies drove in all three runs in a 3-2 win over Hiram.
DePauw split a doubleheader Saturday with Transylvania. The Tigers won game one, 10-2. Mathies had a walk, a double and a run batted in during a 3-2 loss in game two.
Erica Henry
The Shelbyville graduate earned the win for IU Columbus in a 5-3 victory over Shawnee State University. She pitched a complete game, allowing 10 hits and all three runs.
IU Columbus was swept in a doubleheader Sunday, 8-0 and 5-0, by the University of Rio Grande (Ohio). Henry was the starting pitcher in both games and took the losses.
Cheyenne Eads
The Shelbyville graduate collected her 19th win of the season Saturday in the University of Indianapolis’ 4-3, 9-inning win at Lewis in Romeoville, Illinois.
Eads allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out a career-high 15 in nine innings to improve to 19-10 this season. It was Eads’ fourth complete game of the season that went more than seven innings.
Lewis defeated the Greyhounds in game two of the doubleheader, 6-5.
