Collegiate Update: Hamilton helps Kentucky finish off SEC sweep of Missouri

Karissa Hamilton had a double and a home run Sunday to lead Kentucky to a three-game sweep of Missouri in the first weekend of Southeastern Conference (SEC) contests.

Hamilton (photo), a Shelbyville graduate, had a walk in her only plate appearance Friday in Kentucky’s 6-4 victory in the series opener.

Hamilton did not have a hit Saturday in a 5-4 win.

On Sunday, Hamilton drove in three runs with her two extra-base hits and scored twice in a 9-6 victory to complete the sweep.

The Wildcats are 17-6 this season.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits, including a double, in Mississippi State’s 7-run fourth inning that helped the Bulldogs sweep Auburn in the opening weekend of the SEC schedule.

Mississippi State rallied from being down 4-0 to win 7-4 and improve to 22-3 this season.

In the series opener Saturday, Edwards had a double and scored a run in a 5-4 victory. The Bulldogs won game two Sunday 9-4.

Brooklyn Bailey

The Triton Central graduate had three points and four rebounds for Kaskaskia College in a 93-45 loss March 4 at Lake Land College.

Kaskaskia closed out its season with a 7-23 record.

Olivia Faust

The Triton Central graduate finished with two points, one rebound, one assist and three steals for Marian on March 4 in a 64-58 loss to Indiana Wesleyan in the championship game of the Crossroads League postseason tournament.

Marian (23-7) is one of 64 teams competing in the NAIA First and Second Round tournaments beginning Friday. The Knights will host Saint Xavier University (18-11) Friday in one semifinal game.

The second semifinal will feature Oregon Tech (23-7) against Milligan College (24-7). The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game.

Rylie Stephens

The Triton Central graduate had 16 points, 14 rebounds, one assist, four steals and one block Saturday in West Florida’s 83-64 loss to Union University in the Gulf South Conference championship tournament.

The Argos (20-10) earned a No. 7 seed into the NCAA Division II tournament and will face No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle University Friday at Union University in Tennessee.

Stephens, West Florida’s leading scorer at 13.5 ppg, was recently selected Second Team All-Conference for her performance this season.

Maya Chandler

The Triton Central graduate scored a team-high 15 points and added one rebound, four assists and two steals Wednesday in Miami’s 69-66 overtime loss to Central Michigan.

On Saturday, Chandler scored a career-high 26 points in Miami’s 89-79 win over Northern Illinois.

The Redhawks (19-10) open the Mid-American Conference Tournament Wednesday in Cleveland against Kent State. Those two teams split two regular-season games.

Brooke Lipperd

The Shelbyville graduate had two walks in four at-bats on March 4 for Franklin College in an 8-4 loss at Wilmington.

On Saturday, Lipperd had a single and scored a run in Franklin’s 3-2 win over Kalamazoo.

Franklin is 3-2 this season.

Cheyenne Eads

The Shelbyville graduate took the loss Friday for the University of Indianapolis in a 5-4 loss to Upper Iowa. Eads allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out 10. She also had a double, a walk and drove in a run.

In game two of the doubleheader Friday, Eads had two hits and a walk to help the Greyhounds defeat Upper Iowa, 9-8.

Indianapolis swept a doubleheader Saturday against Quincy. Eads earned the win in game one, allowing two hits and no runs in four innings of work. She also had a double and drove in two runs in a 12-0 victory.

Eads scored two runs in game two’s 16-4 win.

The Greyhounds improved to 11-5.

Erica Henry

The Shelbyville graduate turned in a pair of strong pitching performances to help IU Columbus put together a three-game win streak.

IU Southeast defeated IU Columbus Friday 19-4 in game one of a doubleheader.

Henry went the distance in a 5-3 game-two win over the Grenadiers. She allowed six hits and two walks while striking out three.

IU Columbus defeated Midway Saturday, 7-4, in the first of two games.

Henry again got the start in game two and led the Crimson Pride to a 6-5 victory. She surrendered eight hits and three walks while striking out three in seven innings of work.

IU Columbus upped its record to 3-9.

Katie Mathies

The Shelbyville graduate had two home runs and drove in seven runs for DePauw, who finished 3-1 at the 2025 Millikin Tournament.

The Tigers opened the event Saturday with a 3-2 win over Millikin. DePauw then defeated Hanover, 13-11. Mathies had two walks, a home run and drove in two runs.

On Sunday, DePauw started the day with a 5-4 loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Mathies drove in two with a home run.

DePauw then defeated Hanover again, 9-1. Mathies had four hits and drove in three runs.

The Tigers are 6-4 this season.

Charlie Rife

The Shelbyville graduate had two walks, scored a run and drove in a run for Bellarmine on March 4 in a 6-4 win over Dayton.

The Knights were swept in a three-game series over the weekend at Southern Illinois.

Rife was hit by a pitch and scored a run Friday in a 17-7 loss. He had a sacrifice fly that scored a run Saturday in a 13-3 defeat.

Brock Kuhn

The Shelbyville graduate made his collegiate debut for Ohio Northern Saturday against Massachusetts-Dartmouth in Davenport, Florida.

In a game-two 14-5 win, Kuhn walked in his only at bat, stole a base and scored.
