Collegiate Update: Hamilton continues to shine for Kentucky as SEC season begins

Karissa Hamilton had four hits, including a triple and a home run Saturday for Kentucky in a 6-5, 13-inning loss at Auburn.

The Shelbyville graduate leads the Wildcats (19-5) in hits (33), doubles (8), triples (4) and RBI (27) this season.

Kentucky began the week with a 9-0 win over IU Indy. Hamilton had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three.

On Friday, Kentucky opened its SEC schedule with an 8-3 win at Auburn. Hamilton had a 3-run home run in the win.

Auburn defeated the Wildcats, 6-2, Saturday in the first of two conference games. Hamilton had a single and drove in a run.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Jason Garrison

The Shelbyville graduate posted rounds of 78 (+6) and 73 (+1) for Franklin College Saturday and Sunday at the Music City Shootout at Legacy Golf Course in Springfield, Tennessee.

The two-day total of 151 placed Garrison tied for eighth place overall.

Avram Rund

The Triton Central won a doubles match but lost at No. 6 singles for Franklin Sunday in a 5-2 loss at Brescia (Kentucky). Rund teamed with Luke Morris to secure a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles over Peyton Johnston and Colton Huffman.

Johnston defeated Rund, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.

Kentucky Wesleyan then defeated the Grizzlies, 5-2, Sunday. Rund and Morris were defeated at No. 2 doubles by Jose Ferrandis and Caleb Stovall.

Rund lost to Miguel Perlaza, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Corbin Deck

The Shelbyville graduate finished with six kills and nine digs Wednesday in Franklin volleyball’s 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 15-9 win over Mount St. Joseph.

Franklin lost two matches Saturday – 25-13, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20 to St. Norbert and 26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15 at Greenville (Illinois).

Deck had five kills, two assists and six digs in the loss to St. Norbert. He had 11 kills and two digs against Greenville.

The Grizzlies are 4-12.

Brooke Lipperd

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and drove in three in Franklin College’s 8-0 win Saturday over Kalamazoo.

In the second game of a doubleheader, Lipperd had a single in three plate appearances in a 4-3 win.

Kali Laycock

The Shelbyville graduate had a single and a walk in her collegiate debut for Franklin Saturday in a 4-3 win over Kalamazoo.

Cheyenne Eads

The Shelbyville graduate improved to 8-0 this season for the University of Indianapolis Sunday in a 2-1 win over Winona State in the Space Coast Spring Games in Florida.

Eads tossed a complete game, allowed seven hits and four walks but just one run to improve the No. 11 Greyhounds to 15-1 this season.

In its Spring Games opener, Indianapolis defeated West Chester, 5-3. Eads had a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. She also pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get the save.

Brayden Basey

The Shelbyville graduate had a single in two plate appearances and scored a run Friday in Christian Brothers’ 15-8 loss at Delta State in Memphis, Tennessee.

Christian Brothers in 5-16 this season.

Brylie Couch

The Triton Central graduate got her first start in the pitcher’s circle for Trine Saturday in a 6-4 win over Belhaven (Miss.). Couch went two innings and allowed three hits and one run.

Couch had a walk and scored a run Friday in Trine’s 7-4 win over Pacific Lutheran.

The Thunder are 11-1 this season.

Bryce Haney

The Triton Central graduate took the loss Sunday to Centre College, 5-4.

Haney pitched the final 2.2 innings for Wabash (3-5) and allowed two hits, one walk and struck out two.

Jayda McKee

The Triton Central graduate had two hits, stole a base and scored a run in her second collegiate game at Anderson.

The Ravens defeated Benedictine (Ill.) Saturday, 3-1, in Kissimmee, Florida.

Brooklyn Bailey

The Triton Central graduate had 10 points, five rebounds and one assist Tuesday in Kaskaskia College’s 93-55 loss at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois.

Kaskaskia closed out its season with an 8-23 record.

Emma Nelson

The Morristown graduate had nine points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block Friday in Marian Ancilla’s 73-59 semifinal round loss to Mid Michigan College in the NJCAA Region 12 Great Lakes District Tournament at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan.

The Chargers reached the semifinals for the third time in the last four years with a 53-43 win Tuesday over Southwestern Michigan. Nelson finished with two points, two rebounds, two steals and one block.

Marian Ancilla finished its season at 18-11.
