Collegiate Update: Greyhounds fall in NCAA Division II Super Regional

The University of Indianapolis softball team fell one win short of tying a season record for wins with a pair of NCAA Division II Super Regional losses to McKendree.

In the best-of-three series that started Thursday at Baumgartner Field in Indianapolis, the visitors notched a 3-2 victory over the Greyhounds.

Cheyenne Eads, a Shelbyville graduate, had a run-scoring single and was hit by a pitch for the 38th time this season – a NCAA Division II national record.

Eads stepped into the pitcher’s circle in game two Friday and suffered a 5-4 loss when McKendree delivered a game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Eads finished the season 31-3. She became the fifth Greyhound pitcher in program history to win at least 30 games.

Indianapolis finished 59-7 and made its fourth consecutive Super Regional appearance.
