Collegiate Update: Eads improves to 21-2 for the University of Indianapolis

The University of Indianapolis suffered its third loss of the season on April 7, 3-2 in eight innings at Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Shelbyville graduate Cheyenne Eads (photo) took the loss to fall to 18-2 this season. She allowed four hits and a walk while striking out 13 in a complete-game performance.

The Greyhounds won the second game of the doubleheader, 13-3. At the plate, Eads was hit by a pitch for the 23rd time this season – a program record.

On April 8, Indianapolis swept Ohio Dominican, 6-2 and 9-2. Eads pitched a complete game in game one, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out four.

The Greyhounds, ranked No. 7 nationally, swept Missouri S&T Saturday, 4-3 in eight innings and 2-1. Eads was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out six over eight innings.

Indianapolis completed a busy week with two wins Sunday over Lincoln (Missouri), 10-3 and 9-0. Eads improved to 21-2 with a 9-strikeout performance in game one.

The Greyhounds are 43-3 this season.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level:

Brayden Wilkins

The Triton Central graduate finished third in the 100 meters (10.83 seconds) and second in the 200 (21.82) Saturday for Franklin College at the Indiana DIII Championships at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Wilkins also was part of Franklin’s 400 relay team that placed fourth (42.58).

Three Shelbyville graduates also competed in the track and field meet for Franklin.

Logan Page finished 24th in the 100 (11.61), 17th in the 200 (23.79) and seventh in the high jump (1.73 meters).

Christian Powell placed 11th in the 400 (52.74) and ran with Blake Hughes as part of Franklin’s 1,600 relay team that finished fourth in 3:32.07.

Ethan Lambert

The Shelbyville graduate placed 23rd in the discus event Friday at the We Fly Challenge at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Lambert’s best throw was 123-5.

Jake Garrison

The Shelbyville graduate finished tied for 12th Sunday in the Timbergate Preview hosted by Spalding University at Timbergate Golf Club in Edinburgh, Indiana.

Playing for Franklin College, Garrison shot 78 (+6) Saturday and followed that with a 74 (+2) Sunday for a two-day score of 152.

Franklin finished fifth in the team standings.

Oliver Gearlds

The Triton Central graduate tied for seventh place Friday at the Holy Cross Spring Invite played at Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Indiana.

Playing for IU Kokomo, Gearlds shot 78 (+6) Thursday and 77 (+5) Friday for a two-day score of 155.

IU Kokomo finished second in the team standings.

Avram Rund

The Triton Central graduate lost a No. 6 singles match Saturday to IU Southeast’s Brennan Cooper, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.

The Grenadiers defeated Franklin, 4-3.

Kali Laycock and Brooke Lipperd

The Shelbyville graduates combined for three hits Thursday in Franklin’s 2-0 win over Spalding.

Lipperd had two hits, including a triple, and scored a run.

Franklin is 21-5 this season.

Lillian Fillippinie

The Triton Central graduate pitched four innings, allowed three hits and one run on April 8 in Muskingum’s 9-8 win in 10 innings over Marietta in New Concord, Ohio.

Muskingum is 21-5.

Jayda McKee

The Triton Central graduate had two hits and scored a run for Anderson Saturday in a 13-3 loss to Franklin.

The Ravens are 9-17.

Karissa Hamilton

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits and drove in a run for Kentucky Monday in a 10-3 loss to Tennessee.

She had a double Sunday against Tennessee in a 6-0 loss.

Kentucky is 24-22 this season.

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits and drove in a run Sunday for LSU in a 4-2 loss to Arizona.

In Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Wildcats, she had a triple and scored a run.

LSU is 28-14.

Brayden Basey

The Shelbyville graduate had one of only two Christian Brothers hits on April 7 in a 2-0 loss at Arkansas Tech University.

Basey had five hits in a weekend series at the University of Montevallo (Alabama).

On Friday, he had a double and scored a run in a 4-1 loss. He had two hits, including a double, and scored a run in a 10-7 loss in the first game of a doubleheader.

In game two, he had two hits and drove in a run in a 5-4 loss. Basey is hitting .375 this season in 26 games.

Christian Brothers is 10-30.

Charlie Rife

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits and scored a run for Bellarmine on April 6 in a 9-8 loss at the University of Southern Indiana.

Rife had a walk and scored a run Friday in a 10-5 win at Eastern Kentucky.

The Knights are 16-19 this season and 9-6 in Atlantic Sun Conference games.

Kaleb Murphy

The Triton Central graduate pitched two innings, allowed one hit and one run on April 6 for Bethel University in a 11-9 win over Spring Arbor.

Bethel is 8-26.

Bryce Haney

The Triton Central graduate pitched one inning and allowed two hits and a walk but did not allow a run for Wabash in a 27-4 loss to Denison University on April 8.

On Saturday, Haney threw two scoreless innings and had two strikeouts in a 7-4 win over Ohio Wesleyan.

Wabash is 8-17.
