
Cheyenne Eads pitched a complete game Saturday to help the University of Indianapolis defeat Hillsdale, 3-2 and earn the softball program’s third-straight trip to the Super Regional.
The Greyhounds opened the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional with a 2-1 win in nine innings at No. 17 Tiffin Thursday. Eads went the distance, allowed eight hits and struck out seven.
Indianapolis advanced to the championship game Friday with a 7-4 win over Lewis. Eads, a Shelbyville graduate, started in the circle and worked into the fourth inning before being relieved. She had two hits and a walk at the plate.
Hillsdale defeated Indianapolis Saturday, 2-0, to set up a winner-takes-all championship game. Eads pitched well in the loss, allowing three hits while striking out seven.
In game two, Eads allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out six in a 3-2 win.
The Greyhounds (41-21) will face Saginaw Valley (46-12) in a best-of-three game series beginning Thursday at 11 a.m. in University Center, Michigan.

Katie Mathies
Mathies, a Shelbyville graduate, helped DePauw win the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Friday at Denison.
The Tigers opened the postseason Thursday with wins over Hiram, 4-3, and Wittenberg, 5-2. Mathies had two RBI in the win over Wittenberg.
In the championship game Friday, DePauw defeated Denison, 6-5 in 10 innings. Mathies singled in the seventh inning to cut Denison’s lead to 3-2.
DePauw scored again to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Denison had a two-run home run in the top of the 10th, but the Tigers scored three in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
With the championship, DePauw advanced to the NCAA Division III championship for the 15th time in program history.
The Tigers (24-13) travel to Winona, Minnesota, Thursday to face Simpson (31-7) at 2:30 p.m.
Charlie Rife
The Shelbyville graduate delivered a 2-run home run Friday for Bellarmine against Lipscomb University. Rife had two hits and three RBI in an 11-9 loss.
On Wednesday, Rife had a double, scored two runs and drove in a run in Bellarmine’s 19-9 win at Morehead State.
Oliver Gearlds
The Triton Central graduate finished tied for 21st at the River States Conference Championship at Glade Springs Golf Resort in Daniels, West Virginia.
Playing for Indiana University Kokomo, Gearlds posted rounds of 73-79-83 to finish 19-over par (235).
The Cougars finished in sixth place in the conference championship.
Asher Caldwell
The Morristown graduate finished 30th for Trine University at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Spring Final at Bella Vista Golf Resort in Coldwater, Michigan.
Caldwell shot 80 Wednesday, which was highlighted by an eagle on the ninth hole. He followed that with an 83 Thursday for a two-day total of 163 (+11).
