Collegiate Update: Caldwell finishes top 20 at AU Double Gun Classic

Asher Caldwell helped Trine golf to a fifth-place finish on Sept. 2 at the AU Double Gun Classic in Aurora, Illinois.

The Morristown graduate carded rounds of 72 and 79 to finish at 151 at Aurora Country Club to finish 20th overall.

Caldwell’s opening round of even par 72 included a birdie on his first hole and an eagle on his fifth — a 536-yard par 5.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level:

Axel Conover

The Shelbyville graduate had one solo tackle for Hanover football Saturday in a season-opening 23-15 loss at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.

Brayden Wilkins

The Triton Central graduate carried the ball 10 times for 61 yards and had a 5-yard reception for Franklin College Saturday in a 27-20 win over Ohio Northern.

Wilkins also had three kickoff returns for 39 yards.

Jake Garrison

The Shelbyville graduate finished tied for ninth at the Roger Lundy Alabama Invasion in Union Grove, Alabama.

The Franklin College freshman shot rounds of 74 and 80 at Cherokee Ridge Country Club for a two-round total of 154.

Franklin finished tied for fifth place.

Avram Rund

The Triton Central graduate lost a No. 6 singles match Saturday to Trine’s Landon Bassett, 6-3, 6-0.

The Thunder defeat Rund and Franklin College, 6-1.

Christian Powell and Blake Hughes

The Shelbyville graduates placed 127th (21 minutes, 36 seconds) and 128th (21:53) respectively for Franklin College Saturday in the season-opening Grizzly Invite at Blue River Memorial Park’s cross country course in Shelbyville.

Franklin finished fifth overall in the 5K event.

Shelby Lasure

The Shelbyville graduate helped Anderson volleyball finish 2-1 at the Rose-Hulman Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.

On Friday, the Ravens (4-2) defeated Knox, 25-15, 26-24, 25-17. Lasure finished with 11 digs and one assist.

Anderson needed five sets Saturday to defeat Westminster, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13. Lasure had six digs in the win.

The Ravens closed out the event with a 26-24, 25-23, 25-8 loss to Ohio Northern. Lasure was credited with four digs.
