Shelbyville baseball’s first win over New Palestine came on April 7. The second came Friday night at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis.
Aiden Smith pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Class 3A, No. 11 Golden Bears to a 9-0 victory and a sweep of the Hoosier Heritage Conference series with the Dragons (10-7, 4-4 HHC).
The University of Kentucky commit walked three and struck out eight to improve the Golden Bears to 9-3 (6-2 HHC).
Smith had a base hit and walked twice to score three runs. He also had two RBIs.

Austin Martzall (photo) had three hits and scored two runs. Gavin Reed had two hits and drove in two runs. Luke Coomes also had two RBIs.
Alex Andrews took the loss for New Palestine. The junior did not make it out of the second inning, allowing five hits, two walks and five runs.
Shelbyville added four more runs off Ajay Kropp.
Kingston Hedges had two hits for New Palestine.
Shelbyville Middle School Science teacher Scott Hughes, a former Shelbyville varsity baseball coach, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Shelbyville 13, Franklin County 4
At Franklin County Saturday, the Golden Bears quickly fell behind 3-0 but scored four runs in the top of the second inning and never trailed again to improve to 10-3.
Coomes pitched five innings, allowing four hits and striking out five to get the win. Martzall three two scoreless innings in relief.
Five different Golden Bears scored two runs. Martzall, Smith and Coomes each had two hits.
Adair Zermeno had a team-high three RBIs.
Kash Marsh had two hits and scored two runs for Franklin County (8-8).
The Golden Bears host Columbus North (9-8) Monday at Barnett Field.
