Prep Report: Class 2A, No. 6 Triton Central claims first Hoosier Legends Conference boys basketball championship

The final victory to secure the outright Hoosier Legends Conference championship did not come easy Friday.

Speedway hit a trio of three-pointers in the final quarter in Fairland, but Eli Sego countered with seven of his team-high 26 points to secure the 53-52 come-from-behind win for Class 2A, No. 6 Triton Central.

The Tigers trailed 41-40 going to the final quarter but Brayden Hoover and Henry Kemper each had field goals and Jackson Faust scored his only two points of the game at the free throw line to improve the Tigers to 19-3 (5-0 HLC).

Drew Matelic scored a game-high 29 points for Speedway (11-10, 2-3 HLC). He had 24 points through three quarters but was limited to just five over the final eight minutes.

Triton Central travels to Eastern Hancock (13-9) Wednesday for the second Sectional 43 quarterfinal game at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Tigers defeated the Royals, 66-48, on Jan. 31.

Morristown 64, Anderson Prep 32

At Morristown, the Class A, No. 16 Yellow Jackets raced out to a 29-4 lead after one quarter and cruised to a sixth-straight win to close out the regular season.

Kellen Crim had 10 of his game-high 24 points in the opening quarter and 12 more in the second to push Morristown’s lead to 53-16 by halftime. The junior guard finished with eight steals, six assists and three rebounds.

Dalton McMichael played his final home game at Morristown and scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Brayden Anderson added 12 points and Brody Smith finished with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Sametrius Nave led Anderson Prep (9-13) with 10 points.

Morristown won the junior varsity game, 48-46, to finish the season at 13-5.

Morristown (17-5), winners of 10 of its last 11, faces the host Tri Titans (13-9) Tuesday in the second Sectional 59 quarterfinal contest.

Waldron 62, Rising Sun 47

At Rising Sun, Ethan Moody scored 24 of his game-high 28 points over the final three quarters to secure Waldron’s sixth-straight win.

After a slow opening quarter that ended with the Mohawks up 10-8, Moody scored 13 points in the second quarter to extend Waldron’s lead to 29-14.

Eli Stewart scored eight of his 13 points in the third quarter to keep Waldron up 49-38.

Waldron had just one field goal in the fourth quarter but made 11 of 15 free throws to get the win.

D.J. Williams and Landon Simpson each scored 12 points to lead Rising Sun (7-16).

Waldron (15-7) will open Sectional 59 at Tri Tuesday against Southwestern (5-16). The Mohawks, with the most program wins in a season since 2013, have already defeated the Spartans twice this season.
