Brown sets TC record for rushing yards in a game in 27-7 win over Scecina

Class 2A, No. 8 Triton Central struggled to complete passes Friday against an Indianapolis Scecina defense intent on shutting down an offense playing with an All-State running back at quarterback.

The Tigers held a precarious 6-0 lead at halftime after a Braden Brown rushing touchdown on the game’s opening possession. The extra point kick was missed.

In the second half, Brown, who has been filling in for injured quarterback Matthew Wilkins, reminded the Crusaders why he is one of the top running backs in Class 2A. The senior rushed for a school record 387 yards and four touchdowns to secure Triton Central a 27-7 victory.

Brown had touchdown runs of 34, 80 and 73 yards in his record-setting performance. He now has 1,411 rushing yards this season – sixth best all-time at Triton Central.

Scecina’s lone touchdown came in the third quarter when quarterback Bryce McDonald connected with Eric Montgomery.

Scecina finished the regular season at 6-3. The Crusaders host Monrovia (3-6) this Friday in a Sectional 37 contest.

Triton Central closed out its regular season schedule at 8-1. The Tigers are at Centerville (7-2) Friday for a Sectional 38 game.
