Richard E. Hassenplug 85, of Rochester, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, with his family by his side.
Born in Richland Township, on June 19, 1940, Richard Edward was a treasured son of Byron and Inez M. Hartman Hassenplug. Growing up, he shared his childhood with a brother Charles. He was a proud member of the Richland Center High School class of 1959.
On June 10, 1960, Richard married the love of his life, Betty Ann Wagoner at Rochester's First Baptist Church. They shared over 65 years of life's adventures. From their union came two beautiful daughters Linda and Julie. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
Betty and Richard enjoyed traveling. They drove thru every state in the United States except Hawaii. With a great love for the amazing state, Alaska they visited twice soaking in the beauty of the nature and wildlife.
Richard is lovingly remembered by his wife Betty Ann at home, a daughter Julie (Leo) Lopez of Bourbon; 3 grandchildren Richard ( Amy) Kowal, Amanda (Brad) Huse, Wes (Shelby) Kowal; 6 great-grandchildren Carter Kowal, Riley Kowal, Whitney Huse, Noah Huse, Atlas Kowal and Jade Kowal; a brother Charles Hassenplug of Rochester; a brother-in-law David Wagoner and sister-in-law Janice Zellers.
Preceding Richard in death are his parents, a daughter Linda Kowal, sister-in-law Joyce Hassenplug and step-father Walter Ludwig.
Richard's life will be celebrated with a private family service.
Burial will follow at Rochester's IOOF Cemetery. Pastor Luke Vasicek will officiate.
The Good Family Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
