Richard A. Stewart, 90, of St. Paul

Richard A. Stewart, 90, of St. Paul, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026 at Ashford Place.

Born April 6, 1936 in Shelby County, he was the son of William Wallace Stewart and May Ellen (Conner) Stewart.

He married Phyllis Irene (Hoban) Stewart on June 14, 1959, and she preceded him on June 28, 2006.

Surviviors include 2 daughters- Cindy Verseman (Bill) of St. Paul, Linda Jean Richmond (Tom) of Flat Rock; sister-in-law Gladys Stewart of Shelbyville; 3 grandchildren- Anna Morrow (Michael), Brian Verseman (Ashley), Kylie Jones (Kurt); and 4 great grandchildren- Katelyn & Vincent Morrow, and Luke & Scarlett Verseman.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, 4 siblings- Mary Wicker, William Stewart, Joyce McNeely, & Joe Stewart.

Mr. Stewart was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1954, and attended Franklin College. He was a self employed farmer for many years, and had also worked at KCL Corp., retiring after 30 years of service.

He was a lifetime member of Geneva Methodist Church, member of Waldron Masonic Lodge, and was a 50 year member of Scottish Rite.  He also served in the Indiana National Guard.  As a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church, Richard was a faithful follower and a good witness of Jesus Christ.  He held many positions over the years at church and participated in prison ministries at Pendleton Correctional Facility.

Richard loved animals and enjoyed raising cattle, hogs, sheep, horses, donkeys, geese, ducks, and golden retriever puppies.  He loved visiting with people and could often be found in conversation at the elevator in St. Paul or at Denny's with his former classmates.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Geneva United Methodist Church, 3107 E. Vandalia Road, Flat Rock, IN., with Pastors Mark Dodd and Kristen Hanson officiating.  

Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery.  

Friends may call on Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service, at the church.
