Oran Ray Slaven, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Ashford Place.
Born June 14, 1937 in Bethesda, Kentucky, he was the son of George Dewey Slaven and Mary Ann (Daffron) Slaven. He married Joyce Allene (Woody) Slaven on December 4, 1954 and she preceded him on October 3, 2019.
Survivors include 2 sons- Donald Slaven (wife Anita) of Shelbyville, Michael Slaven (wife Thresa) of Morristown, daughter Chastity Crain (husband Joseph) of Shelbyville; 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, a son Oran Eugene Slaven, grandson Jeremy Lee Slaven, and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Slaven had lived in this area for most of his lifetime, and attended school in Kentucky. He had been a tree trimmer for Asplundh Tree Service, retiring after many years of service.
Oran enjoyed hunting and fishing, the outdoors, attending auctions, and collecting cast iron items.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating.
Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
