Michael William Hedges, known as Mike by his friends and family, passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the comfort of his home in Lawrenceville surrounded by loved ones.

Michael William Hedges, known as Mike by his friends and family, passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the comfort of his home in Lawrenceville surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Mt. Carmel on November 21, 1956, to William E. Hedges and his wife Barbara M. (Bass) Hedges. 

As a young man, Mike married Nona Litherland. During their 38 years of marriage, they built a life together centered on hard work, raising their three daughters, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. 

Mike spent many years working at Central Cigar in Lawrenceville before later joining the Bridgeport Liquor Locker. He will be remembered as a true original—a loyal friend, gifted storyteller, history enthusiast, fisherman, devoted Cubs fan, and passionate coin collector. Mike had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger. In his younger years, he was also known for his artistic talent and enjoyed drawing and painting. 

He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge of Allendale and the Lawrenceville Elks Lodge 1208.  

Those remaining to honor and remember Mike include: his wife Nona Hedges of Lawrenceville; three daughters- Amie Lane and husband Scott of Georgia, Brenda Doud and fiancé Shane Brown of Illinois, and Makalia Burns and husband Roger of Lawrenceville; eleven grandchildren- Alex Ritchey, Jonathon Ritchey and wife Brooklyn, Michael Lane and wife Terran, Joseph Lane, Ashley Ayers, Nicole Doud, Connor Patch, Dalton Bobbitt-Burns, Dalton James Burns, Dillon Burns, and Lily Burns; six great-grandchildren; his “Dog Daughter”- Lucy; and several nieces and nephews. 

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William and Barbara Hedges, and one sister, Donna Jean Owens. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Graveside services will take place at May Chapel Church Cemetery on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. There will be an Elks Memorial Ceremony at the graveside service as well.
