
Marvin Earl Stamper, 84, of Shelbyville, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at his home.
He was born February 18, 1941, the son of James Earl and Genieva Mae (Whisman) Stamper. On November 22, 1959, he married his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Kay Elgan, and she survives.
In addition to Eleanor, Marvin is survived by his daughter, Christina Lynn Hurst and husband, Donny, of Shelbyville; son, Halleck William Stamper and wife, Julie, of Apex, North Carolina; sister, Sandra Stamper of Commiskey; brother, Howard “Dutch” Stamper and wife, Janet, of Lovett; six grandchildren, Ryan Wolfe (Rachael), Emily Lourash (Justin), Eric Wolfe (Hannah), Zachary Stamper (Jase), Tyler Wolfe and Andrew Stamper; six great-grandchildren, Spencer, Aiden, Hudson, Owen, Sophie, Alex and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Jack Stamper.
Marvin was a 1959 graduate of North Vernon High School, and continued his education to become a master machinist.
He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
Marvin retired in 2007, from repairing machinery in the paper industry.
He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout Leader for 11 years.
Visitation will be from 10 to Noon on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will follow, with Rev. Dr. Robb Barlow and Chaplain Brian Farnsley officiating.
Interment will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County.
