Martha C. (Miller) LeClerc, 88

Martha C. (Miller) LeClerc, Marty to her friends, passed away January 8, 2026, at Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus. She was 88.

Marty was born in Manilla, IN, on March 10, 1937, the fourth and final daughter of Rue and Pearl Miller. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty, Annabelle and Jane, and one brother, Louis.

Marty graduated from Manilla HS in 1955. Under her yearbook picture was the phrase “The Keeper of the A’s,” reflecting her exceptional academic record.

She married the love of her life, Larry LeClerc, a month after her high school graduation. They were together 58 years until Larry’s death in 2013. They raised three children: Pam (Bob) Waits of Rushville, Dan (Tammie) LeClerc of Columbus, and Mark (Betsy) LeClerc of Indianapolis. Marty is survived by six grandchildren: Jon (Abby) Waits of Rushville, Jeremy Waits of Rushville, Josh (Lindsay) Ratliff of Indianapolis, Connor LeClerc of Columbus, Adam LeClerc of Indianapolis, and Mary LeClerc of New York, NY. She also had four great-granddaughters and one great-grandson: Claire and Audrey Waits, Ava Barlow, and Wrenley and Callahan Ratliff. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Marty’s professional career began at Manilla National Bank, where her father and all three sisters worked before her. She then served as a bookkeeper for Bob Eck Accounting in Shelbyville, followed by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and finally the accounting firm of Martin and Potts.

Marty loved travel, visiting most of the states and traveling extensively throughout Europe on multiple occasions. She also loved sports of nearly any kind, especially Purdue basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, and both the Pacers and Fever. She attended close to 25 Indianapolis 500s. Her children have always described her as “scary smart.” She could have chosen almost any career and excelled at it. She was an avid reader, having literally read thousands of books in her lifetime.

Marty grew up in the Manilla Methodist Church, succeeding her mother at the piano, and was later a member at St. Paul’s United Methodist in Rushville. She and Larry moved from Manilla to Lake Santee, IN, in 1996 and she remained there until 2022 when she moved to Four Seasons in Columbus. Marty said moving to Four Seasons was the second-best decision of her life besides marrying Larry. When her children encouraged her to move giving birth to them higher in that ranking, she politely declined. She leaves behind many dear friends at Four Seasons, including nurses and staff who would come to her room to check on their “Miss Marty” simply because they loved her. Marty’s family would like to thank the kind and talented nurses and staff at both Four Seasons and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. You reflect the absolute best of your calling and profession.

Donations can be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Marty’s memory.
