Marlene Sue (Barnes) Fritz, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at MHP Medical Center.
She was born May 3, 1938, in Indianapolis, IN to Edward Barnes and Luella (Martin) Barnes.
Marlene graduated from Shelbyville High School with the Class of 1956. She had lived in Shelby County all of her life. She was a longtime member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. Marlene worked at Blue River Special Education from 1982-1997 as a bus aide and teacher’s aide. She had also worked for Shelbyville Central Schools and the Heritage House Convalescent Center. She enjoyed playing and coaching softball. Marlene was also an avid bowler for over 40 years. She had a love for volunteering for child abuse awareness and most of all, spending time with her family.
She married Clarence Fritz on April 8, 1957, and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2008. They spent 51 loving years of marriage together.
She is survived by her daughters, Diana (husband, Gerald) Hermesch of Greensburg and Trisha Fritz of Shelbyville; her son, Mike Fritz of Rush Co; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and her sister, Janet (husband, Bill) Gutzweiler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and brother, Harold Barnes.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
