Marjorie M. Matney, 94, of Shelbyville

Marjorie M. Matney, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Timbercreek Village Assisted Living.
 
Born April 7, 1931 in Rush County, she was the daughter of Herbert and Ruth (Miller) Wagoner.  She married Chester Matney on August 11, 1951 and together they enjoyed 74 years of married bliss.
 
Survivors include her husband Chet; daughter Joan Knight (Kimball) of Milroy; son Steve Matney (Angela) of Madison;
a sister Marlene Copenhaver of Nashville; 6 grandchildren- Jason Wells (Jenn), Ashley Landry (Dustin), Brandy Huffman
(Andrew), Maria Foran (Liam), Evan Matney, Bella Matney; and 10 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her
parents, and a sister Maxine Riley.
 
Mrs. Matney was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Milroy High School in 1949.  She graduated from
Indiana State University and received her Master's degree from Ball State University.  She had been a school teacher 
for Shelbyville Central Schools for 38 years, retiring in 1987.  She was a member of Moscow Christian Church, Milroy
Eastern Star, and various other teacher's organizations.
 
Marjorie dearly loved her husband, her family, and her grandchildren, and treasured the time she spent with them.  
 
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  She will be laid to rest in Moscow Cemetery.
