Marilyn Jean (Leap) Goodwin, 92, of Waldron, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6th, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born December 22, 1933, in Shelby County, Indiana, Marilyn was the daughter of William and Thelma (Kuhn) Leap. She married Harold Gene Goodwin on April 13, 1952, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her four daughters: Vicki Kuhn (Bill) of Rush County, Valerie Mathias (Michael) of Indianapolis, Vanessa Rynard of Indianapolis, and Valynda Laird (Kevin) of Bloomington; thirteen grandchildren: Andy Kuhn, Mary Trebley (Joe), Kelli Canup, Lori Grubbs (Jay), Ben Kappes, Whitney Surface (Lucas), Clay Allen (Angela), Kylie Wolfe (Ian), Christopher Krysevig (Emma), Jennifer Black (Jordan), Nicholas Laird (Ashley), Andrew Laird, and Allie Webb (Justin); and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by a grandchild, Clint Allen, and a great-grandchild, Owen Grubbs.
Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Shelby County, a member of Zion Evangelical Church, and a 1951 graduate of Waldron High School.
Her love of flowers first led her to work at Cossairt Florists before she began a long and respected career at the State Bank of Waldron. She later continued serving the community as a real estate agent with Kitchen Realty. Marilyn also served in the Shelby County Historical Society and especially enjoyed taking part in the annual Pioneer Days festival alongside Gene and their grandchildren.
Marilyn was a wonderful cook, making the most delicious yeast rolls and homemade pies. Always a gracious host, she welcomed all into her home for countless holiday gatherings. One of her favorite traditions was celebrating the Fourth of July alongside all those who would gather on her home’s front porch overlooking Waldron’s Fourth of July Festival parade.
Most importantly, Marilyn’s priority in life was raising her four daughters. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her quiet strength, warm sense of humor, and deep love for her family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville. Friends may call on the day of the funeral from 10:00 to start of services. Burial will be at Van Pelt Cemetery.
