Larry Elam, 78, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Willows in Shelbyville.
He was born December 19, 1947 in Dayton, OH to Courtney Elam and Mildred (Sallee) Elam.
He was a teacher at Kettering City Schools in Ohio for over 40 years. After moving to Westfield in 2013, he continued teaching as a substitute teacher.
Larry loved to talk but he always had a listening ear for what you had to say. His love of family was his top priority and will always be remembered and appreciated. He took great pride in his gardening and his time spent bowling.
He married Patricia (Phillips) Elam on April 1, 1972, and she survives.
He is also survived by his son, Christopher (wife, Alicia) Elam; daughter, Dana Elam; grandchildren, Jonathan Elam (Taryn Schultz), Shelby Mills (Eric Mullins) and Emily Smith. In addition, he is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Garry Elam and mother-in-law, Jean Phillips.
The Funeral Service / Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Light of Hope Church (Northridge Assembly of God), 4777 Payne Ave., Dayton, OH 45414, with Pastor David Davis officiating.
Burial will be at a later date at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, E Lytle 5 Points Rd, Centerville, OH 45458.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Foundation, 912 Killian Hill Rd. S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
