Jimmie D. Kinney, a cherished father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, in Walkerton, IN. Born on January 19, 1943, in LaPorte, IN, Jim grew up in a close-knit family and carried those values of togetherness throughout his life.
Graduating from Tyner High School in 1961, Jim soon began a dedicated career as a Sprinkler Fitter at Viking Fire Protection where he spent over 31 years before retiring in 1998. Known for his strong work ethic, Jim’s contributions to his profession were as noteworthy as the many lives he protected through his work.
Jim’s heart found its melody in music, as he took great pleasure in playing the guitar and singing. His hobbies extended to the green fairways of golf courses and to the diamonds where he enjoyed baseball and softball in his younger years. A talented and resourceful man, Jim took pride in having built his own home, a testament to his skill and diligence.
Beyond his personal interests, Jim was a man of faith and service. He was an active member of the Bremen Church of the Brethren, and his commitment to helping others was evident in his support during church-led disaster relief efforts. Jim’s love for his community shined through his long-standing volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and at his local food bank, where he helped build homes and provide for those in need. A devout Chicago Cubs fan, he shared his passion and optimism with his fellow baseball enthusiasts.
Though he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon (Truax) Kinney, with whom he shared his life after they married on April 18, 1964, in Etna Green, IN; his parents, Delbert Kinney and Gale (White) Kinney; siblings Doris Berger, Neva Daus, Jerry Kinney, and his daughter's late husband David Prybylla, his loving spirit remains in those he left behind. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Kinney-Prybylla; son, Michael (Kimberly) Kinney; grandchildren Austin Kinney and Emily (Josh Ford) Kinney; siblings Jean Hite, Jack Kinney, Freddie (Jean) Kinney, and Nelson Kinney; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives he touched.
