James Richard "Jimmy" Carter, 82, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Franciscan Health.
Born July 18, 1943 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Harry K. Carter, Sr., and Annie Marie (Dunn) Carter. He married
Hazel Lucille (Evans) Carter in 1981 and she preceded him in 2000.
Survivors include 3 children- Linda Jones of Shelbyville, Rhonda Childers of Shelbyville, and Larry Carter of Las Vegas;
2 brothers- Ralph Carter of Waldron and Harry K. Carter, Jr. of Indianapolis; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and
2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, a daughter Candy Carter, a son Billy
Carter, and 5 siblings- Harvey Carter, Walter Carter, John Carter, Doris Scott, and Sarah Maynard.
Mr. Carter had lived most of his lifetime in this area, and attended Shelbyville High School. He had been employed at Old
Hickory Furniture Factory for 3 years, and had previously worked at Bausback/Darling Fertilizer for 22 years.
Jimmy loved reading, fishing, animals, playing pool, watching wrestling, and hanging out with friends and family.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. Friends may call on Friday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
