Emma Jean (Pyle) Sprong, 94, of Shelbyville

Emma Jean (Pyle) Sprong, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Jean was born on July 12, 1931 in Hancock County to James Earl Pyle and Edith Edna (Thurston) Pyle. She graduated from Moral Township High School of Shelby County in 1949. She married the love of her life, Donald Norman Sprong on  August 19, 1952.

Shortly after graduation she began work at Hicks Furniture Mart in Indianapolis. After raising her daughter, Jean returned to the workforce in 1977 at Jo Ann Fabrics. She retired in 2015 after 37 years with the company. During that time she managed stores in Shelbyville, Plainfield, Indianapolis, and Columbus. Jean was a talented salesperson who enjoyed helping customers with their unique projects and needs. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, crafting, cooking, and travel. Jean loved animals and was a devoted pet owner to many cats and dogs during her lifetime.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Martha May (Pyle) Magness; and brother Norman Lee Pyle. Jean is survived by her daughter, Pamela Sue Sprong, and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be  12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.

Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of the service, on Tuesday morning. Pastor Daniel McDonald will officiate.   

A private graveside service will be held at New Palestine Cemetery.
