Ellen Arlene (Smith) DeWitt, 87 of rural Argos, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 5:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Hospital in Plymouth, Indiana.
On May 26, 1939, in Argos, Indiana Ellen was born to Donald D. Smith and Bertha (Cox) Smith. She had lived in the Argos community all her life.
On October 12, 1957, in Culver, Indiana at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church she married Larry Robert DeWitt and together they shared the next 67 years before his passing on July 9, 2024.
Ellen worked for many years for the Argos School Corporation in the school cafeteria until her retirement in 2001. She attended Culver High School. She loved gardening and was a hater of weeds. Ellen always was sewing, Quilting, or working on a craft project. One of her many talents was basketweaving and was a faithful 4-H supporter.
Ellen is survived by her Daughter – Justine Sauer and husband Jay of Plymouth, Indiana
Sons – Alan DeWitt and wife Kim of Plymouth, Indiana; Bart DeWitt and wife MaLeta of Argos, Indiana; and Vernon DeWitt of Argos, Indiana
9 Grandchildren – Corey Sauer and wife Ashlee of Warsaw, Indiana; Nathan Sauer and wife Britney of Plymouth, Indiana; Cindel Sauer of Plymouth, Indiana; Colten Sauer and wife Amanda of Plymouth, Indiana; Jenilee Mark and husband Shawn of Argos, Indiana; Lacy Scheutzow and husband John of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Derrick DeWitt of Plymouth, Indiana; Ryan DeWitt and wife Jasmine of Plymouth, Indiana; and Amber DeWitt and Ryan of Warsaw, Indiana

Friends may visit with the family Monday June 8, 2026, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, Indiana.
Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Justin Chambers of New Song Church.
Burial will conclude at the Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver, Indiana.
