
David L. Platt, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away August 9, 2025, at his residence.
He was born March 5, 1938, in Shelbyville, IN to Clarence E. Platt and Audra A. (Barngrover) Platt.
David was a member of the American Legion Post 70, Blue River Bowling League on Tuesday nights and the Twilight 300 Club since 2008. He was also a member of the St. Joe Social Club, president of Luv Bugs Square Dance Club, Shelbyville Senior Citizen Club and a past member of the Eagles Lodge #766. David worked at Tippecanoe Press for 38 years. He owned and operated Platt’s Lakeview Campground for 40 years. Bowling was his passion. He bowled a 300 when he was 70 years old. “ I have moved on to the great bowling alley in the sky, so every time you hear thunder and lightning, its Grandpa getting strikes.”
He married Katherine E. (McIntyre) Platt on February 6, 1959, and she preceded him in death on April 11, 2024.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Lee (husband, Mike) Slusser; his sons, Dennis Edgar (wife, Luann) Platt, David Alan (wife, Amy) Platt and Darun Wayne (wife, Kristi) Platt; his grandchildren, William (wife, Ariel) Slusser, Justin (wife, Megan) Platt, Emmalyn (husband, Caleb) Imel, Charles (wife, Samantha) Slusser, Chelsea (husband, Matt) Brown, Caleb (wife, Olivia) Platt and Dalton Platt; his great-grandchildren, Arabella Slusser, Hadley Platt, Aubrey Platt, Autumn Slusser, Elijah Slusser and Addellyn Brown and his brother, Wayne Platt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patricia Kay Platt; his sisters, Dorothy Gosney, Helen Stanley, Verna Belle Tower, Mary Springer and Janice Copple; his brothers, Robert Platt and Melvin Platt; his great grandson, Casey Platt.
Visitation will be Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tracy McIntyre officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by our local veterans organization.
