A Hamlet man was arrested on September 7th after a county police officer observed traffic violations.
At about 4 a.m. Sunday morning, Deputy Geiger with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department stopped a red Mitsubishi passenger car on U.S. 31 at 9A Road.
The driver, 34-year-old Zachariah Johnson of Hamlet, was found to have been drinking and submitted to field sobriety tests. He then agreed to a certified blood test and was found to be over two times the legal limit.
Johnson was transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was charged and booked for operating a vehicle while intoxicated as a felony due to a previous conviction and held on a $1500 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
