Young opens Good Vibes with unique vision

Christopher Young has a unique vision.

His plan, which is already well underway, is to turn Good Vibes, formerly known as Club 57, into a one-of-a-kind establishment.

The building, located at 57 East Locust Street in Shelbyville, is split in half with a bar side and a venue side, giving Young plenty of options as he brainstorms new possibilities.

According to Young, Good Vibes held its grand opening Aug. 30. Opening night featured food from Flame Kissed BBQ, bounce houses and more. It was a chance for the community to see the new and improved bar and venue space.

“When I came over to see it before taking over, I was like, ‘Wow, I can do so much with this,’” Young said. “I like a challenge. I took over at the beginning of August and did three weeks of painting and cleaning.

“What I want is family friendly but also with adult stuff (drinking). Somewhere you can bring yourself and your kids, if you want.”

In addition to a comedy competition, Young said Good Vibes has hosted Paint and Sip events, karaoke nights and a podcast. In the future, he plans to host video game tournaments.

“I want this to be known as a positive place for all ages to come and be creative,” Young said.

A Salsa Night featuring DJ Zae is scheduled for Friday. There will be a free Spanish buffet from 6-7 p.m. This is just one example of the various theme nights Good Vibes plans to host.

Young, a 2009 Rushville High School graduate who now resides in Shelbyville, said he built a relationship with the current owner of Good Vibes at his previous job at Horseshoe Indianapolis. He was an executive host at the casino and eventually handled a book totaling over a million dollars.

“I started working at the casino when I was 27 years old. I started as a busser,” Young said, who is 35. “From there, a lady in (human resources) at the casino said I should get into sales. Then I became a guest representative. After that was a VIP representative for about two-and-a-half to three years. The position above that is executive host. I got skipped four times for it. It is a hard position.”

Young’s ability to form strong relationships from his time at the casino and other jobs has served him well. Now, his goal is to use those relationship skills, as well as his business smarts, to transform Good Vibes into a place that “has something for everybody.

Good Vibes is closed Sundays and Mondays. It opens at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and will remain open as long as business demands each night.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, according to Young. Those interested can text him at 463-235-8872 with questions or for more information.
