Law Enforcement and Corrections Appreciation Week went out with a bang at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, with its annual Ride the Lightning fundraiser pulling in a total of $12,013.88 this year for Fulton County Shop with a Cop.

Eight community members participated in Ride the Lightning 2025, with Woodlawn Emergency Department Director Troy Phillipy receiving the least amount of donations for the event. Biting the bullet, Phillipy was publicly tased during the staff luncheon at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, May 15.
"I've been tased one other time in the past during training for my job. I swore then I'd never do it again," Phillipy said before the event, also saying although the anticipation of being tased was a little nerve-racking, the cause for the event was worth it. "I had talked with Sheriff Travis Heishman about the event last year, and seeing the numbers that came for Fulton County Shop with a Cop this year I feel like we are really making a difference and this is a good thing."

During the luncheon, Sheriff Heishman also recognized Ren Zent of Wilson Fertilizer and Grain for being the 2025 Fundraiser Champion by raising $2,500 for the event.
