26-year-old Thomas Diener of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, was killed Thursday evening around 9:45 in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 west of U.S. 31 near the intersection with Plymouth Goshen Trail.
Diener was in a parked Ford pickup on the north shoulder of U.S. 30, behind a disabled truck. A tow company was preparing to hook up to the disabled vehicle when a westbound semi struck the Ford pickup and the disabled truck.
Diener was ejected from the Ford pickup upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Dean Byers due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Two patients were airlifted from the scene to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, one person was transported to Memorial by ambulance, and one individual refused treatment.
Additional details about the crash will be released through the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
