The National Weather Service (NWS) has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire GIANT-FM listening area from Saturday morning until midnight Sunday.
Heavy snow is forecast from the system of anywhere from between 6 and 12 inches, depending on your location. The snow will be accompanied by steadily falling temperatures and wind chills as low as -16 degrees. These conditions pose a significant risk for frostbite and hypothermia, if outside for a prolonged period.
Warming centers have been opened in Lawrence County for those seeking shelter from the cold. In Lawrenceville, the Lawrence County Health Department (LCHD) Community Living Room is available at 2101 James Street. In Bridgeport, the Fountain Family Worship Center at 698 Brian Street is available. Both the St. Francisville City Hall at 200 Fifth Street and the Sumner City Hall at 224 Christy Avenue have opened for those in need.
The NWS says that Lawrence County and area residents should be prepared for the extreme weather conditions.
