Warrant services lead to multiple arrests in Marshall County over the weekend

Law enforcement agencies served warrants over the weekend, resulting in multiple arrests, including a standoff that required an emergency judge-approved search warrant and a drug bust tied to a child abuse investigation.

In the early morning hours of Friday, July 31st, at approximately 2:56 a.m., Marshall County Sheriff's Deputies traveled to the 5400 block of Gumwood Road to serve a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant on Arthur L. Wrightsman, 53.

When deputies made contact with Wrightsman, he refused to come out of the residence and told deputies that if they wanted to take him into custody, they would need to produce a search warrant. Deputies took him at his word.

A search warrant was promptly drafted, reviewed, and approved by a judge. Deputies then re-entered the residence and took Wrightsman into custody without further incident.

Despite the extra effort required to bring him in, Wrightsman was charged with resisting law enforcement and held on a $500 cash bond. The Marshall County Sheriff's Reserve Unit and the Bremen Police Department assisted at the scene.

In a more serious incident, Plymouth Police Officer Vinson served a search warrant in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 2nd at 1:00 a.m. at Northgate Mobile Home Park, 1617 N. Michigan Street, Unit #30, in Plymouth.

The warrant stemmed from an active child abuse investigation in which information had surfaced indicating drug use was occurring inside the home. Upon executing the warrant, officers located drugs in the residence.

Two individuals were taken into custody: Dorianne Rodriguez Crespo, 41, and Joseph Soto Crespo, 36.

Both were charged with five Level 6 felonies each, including: dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, domestic battery, maintaining a common nuisance, neglect of a dependent, and possession of cocaine. Each was issued a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
