Extreme cold temperatures have settled into northern Indiana this week, bringing dangerous wind chills and a cold weather advisory that will be in effect until Wednesday morning.
The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
Mostly sunny skies are in the Tuesday forecast, with a high near 3 degrees and wind chill values as low as -25. The low will be around -4 on Tuesday night.
Wednesday's skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 20 and wind gusts as high as 25 mph.
Warming centers are open across Marshall County. In Argos, the municipal building will be open during working hours, and residents should call the county dispatch center at 574-936-3187 after hours if needed.
Bourbon’s Town Hall will be available during working hours with the Bourbon Police Department lobby 24 / 7.
In Bremen, the Town Hall will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the police department lobby available after hours. You need to call the Bremen PD at 547-546-3456 ahead of time if you need their warming center.
The Culver Town Hall will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the police department lobby available after hours. Anyone needing the warming center after hours should call the Culver PD ahead at 574-842-2525.
The warming center in Plymouth is the Webster Rec. Center at 110 Webster Avenue. It is open during the day, but if you need assistance after hours, call the Plymouth Police Department at 574-936-2126 for access.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept. will also be open 24 / 7 for county residents not living in the city or towns in the county. If you need the county’s warming center, you should call ahead of time at 574-936-3187.
