Vehicle left scene after striking a pedestrian, investigators looking for driver

Decatur County law enforcement is asking the public's assistance with an investigation about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Decatur County Dispatch received a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the area of 4800 East State Road 46. It was further reported that the vehicle left the scene without stopping to check on the individual who had been struck.

Deputies located the victim sitting in a ditch. The victim appeared to be in significant pain and reported experiencing rib and back pain. The victim was transported by Decatur County EMS to Decatur County Memorial Hospital and was subsequently flown by Lifeline to an Indianapolis-area hospital for further treatment.

A passenger-side mirror was located at the scene and may have come from the vehicle involved in the incident.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the vehicle involved in this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information regarding the vehicle or driver is encouraged to contact the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department at 812-663-8125.
