Triton Jr. Sr. High School announced Thursday afternoon that the head coach of the varsity girls basketball program has resigned from the position, effective October 8.
The school shared the news on Facebook at approximately 4 p.m., stating that the decision to resign was communicated to Triton administration Thursday afternoon.
The official notice acknowledged that the announcement came as a surprise, particularly following a parent and player meeting held on Wednesday, October 7.
"We recognize that this announcement comes as a surprise, particularly following the parent and player meeting held on Wednesday, October 7th," the Facebook notice stated. "The decision to resign was communicated to Triton Administration this afternoon."
The school emphasized its commitment to finding the right leadership for the program.
"While we understand this may feel like a setback for our girls basketball program, the priority of Triton Administration will be to move forward and identify a head coach who is in the best interest of our student-athletes and the continued development of our basketball program," the notice said.
The announcement concluded by thanking the community: "We appreciate the support of our parents, players, and community as we work through this transition. Our focus will remain on providing our student athletes with a positive, competitive, and supportive experience."
The school did not name the departing coach or provide further details regarding the resignation.
