A 65-year-old Tippecanoe man was arrested Monday evening after a woman called for police to respond urgently to a rural Marshall County location.
At approximately 6:49 p.m. on July 21, Marshall County Dispatch received a report of an unknown disturbance near Cedar Road and 18th Road in Tippecanoe, with a female caller requesting officers respond as quickly as possible. Bourbon Police and Marshall County Sheriff's deputies both responded to the scene.
During the investigation, Deputy Truty determined that a battery had occurred. Barry Helvey, 65, of Tippecanoe, was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail on a charge of domestic battery. His cash bond was set at $1,500.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed.
